The Importance of Balance of Give-Receive

by Zeynep Ölçer 26 Oct 2024

Everything in the universe progresses in a cycle and balance; just as we take in oxygen and give out carbon dioxide with every breath we take, we need to give something in return for everything we take. The law of giving and taking that underlies this balance manifests itself in many areas of life, from relationships to business life, from our financial sharing to our relationship with nature. So how do we achieve this balance and how do we avoid behaviors that disrupt the balance?

The law of giving and taking includes not only material sharing but also spiritual values, time, love and energy. When we constantly take something in life and never give something in return, we create selfishness and imbalance in relationships. On the other hand, constantly giving but never receiving leads to a feeling of exhaustion over time. Therefore, establishing a two-way energy flow offers a more harmonious and healthy life for both us and our environment.

There are some important points to consider in order to establish a balance between giving and receiving. Here are some common behaviors that cause the balance to be disrupted:

1. Constantly taking but never giving: Constantly expecting attention, help or support from others and not offering anything in return creates a selfish attitude in relationships. This can cause distrust and resentment in the social environment.

2. Constantly giving but never receiving: Devoting oneself entirely to others and ignoring one’s own needs can exhaust a person. This can negatively impact one’s mental and physical health in the long run.

3. Giving with the expectation of something in return: Expecting something in return when helping or showing interest questions the sincerity of what is being given and creates an insincere energy in relationships.

4. Seeing help as an obligation: Seeing doing good as a burden or obligation lowers a person's energy and makes the action worthless.

5. Acting selfishly: Keeping material or spiritual resources only for oneself and avoiding sharing restricts energy and prevents the establishment of a healthy bond with the environment.

6. Not accepting help from others: Not accepting help when you need it or always seeing yourself as sufficient blocks the opportunity to support others and disrupts the balance.

Establishing a balance between giving and receiving requires us to take conscious steps to benefit ourselves and our environment. Here are a few suggestions we can apply in our daily lives to achieve this balance:

Both give and accept help: Accepting help when you need it provides an opportunity to support others and builds a mutual bond in relationships.

Remember that giving is selfless: Help and kindness become more valuable when done without expectation.

Value yourself too: Instead of constantly giving, don't neglect yourself. Meeting your own needs and setting boundaries provides a healthy balance.

The law of giving and receiving allows us to establish healthy and balanced relationships in our lives. Living in harmony with this law brings abundance, happiness and satisfaction to our lives. By maintaining balance, we can contribute more to both ourselves and our environment, and continue a journey in harmony with the flow of life.
